One thing I have noticed as I’ve tried to make changes in my life is that my old habits, try as I might, still pop up from time to time. Even when I have been doing new and better things for quite some time, the feeling of actions or thoughts past still remain.

“Even when you stop feeding a habit, it waits patiently in the dark.”

I would not go as far to say that our habits define us, however, I wonder if once they are formed do we ever truly change a habit or simply do everything we can to choose different ones?

All the more reason to be more kind to ourselves when we slip, and also to be that much more diligent when we are working toward change. Yes, the new version of us is ready and the old is still in waiting just in case.
