I had the opportunity to attend an event this past weekend for my mother-in-law who was being recognized for her service to a local arts organization. Part of the event was going to tour a few different studios of local artists as well. One of the artists works exclusively with plexiglass, which I found incredibly interesting. It’s not really something that I had seen before.
While we were at the event, I had the opportunity to ask her how she came about working with such a unique material. She told me that during an exhibit of her art, in which all of her art was hung from the ceiling, one of her friends told her that it would be interesting to be able to actually see through her art, as opposed to it being a more one dimensional experience.
She found that to be a fascinating prospect, something she had never thought of before. From that point on, for probably the past 2 or 3 years, she has been painting on plexiglass and exploring that in her art.
One small statement, a simple idea, has lead to her focus for multiple years.
I just got done with lunch with a new acquaintance and we were talking about change, making decisions, and growth and he said a word that really sat with me: certainty. I’m probably going to save my thoughts on that for another day, but the important part is the conversation and really paying attention to the small things. Him saying that word has me thinking about things in a way that I have never considered before. It could seem like it was no big deal, just one statement.
The world is always sending out signals. We are always sending out signals as well. We never know what messages are going to be sent our way or how what we are sending out might affect someone else. The important part is to always be open. It’s very easy to get into a routine, keep with our habits, and expect things are going to look a certain way.
But what are we missing when we aren’t paying attention to the signals that world is sending to us? What open doors are we walking right past? What’s something that might have felt like it was meant for you that now you’re thinking about it looks completely different.
ring ring
it’s for you.
